Recap of Vinnie Johnson Tribute

October 8th, 2012

Left to Right - Jeff Lockhart, Stanton Davis, Leonard Brown, and Kenwood Dennard

It was a great night last night! One filled of emotions, energy, excitement, and a dedication to one of the finest drummers this earth has known, Vinnie Johnson.  The Stanton Davis Quartet featured Stanton Davis on trumpet,  Kenwood Dennard on drums, Tim Ingles on bass, and Jeff Lockhart on guitar. Band members and audience members were encouraged to share their fondest memories of Vinnie.  Kenwood shared how inspiring Vinnie was to him and also how Vinnie used put his symbols up as high as they would go on the symbol stand.  The quartet performed electrifying versions of some of Vinnie’s favorite tracks as well as a handful of original compositions from the Ghetto Mysticism band where Vinnie Johnson was the drummer and critical to the sound of the group. There were also guest appearances by Leonard Brown, also one of the members of the Ghetto Mysticism Band and Andre “Youngblood” Evans who had performed with Stanton in the past.

Deano Sounds – Jungle Magic Mix

Dust and Grooves Kickstarter

July 26th, 2012

In the midst of all our summer releases there is also something else very cool going on in the vinyl world. Eilon Paz of Dust and Grooves is embarking on a journey across the country this fall to visit more vinyl fanatics to complete his photography book on vinyl. For those who aren’t familiar with Eilon or Dust and Grooves, Dust and Grooves is an amazing website featuring well-known and not so well known vinyl collectors with their collections in their homes. And Eilon is the brilliant photographer who captures this vinyl magic.  It’s great to see a book like this being creating. It really puts vinyl record collecting in the serious light it deserves which is why all of you vinyl music enthusiasts out there should invest in this kickstarter.
